AFT's QuEST Conference Presentation

This week, Hanna Doerr, NCTAF Program Manager, gave a presentation at AFT's quEST Conference on Learning Teams! Hanna was joined by teachers from Newark and Los Angeles, all there to share their own personal experiences with Learning Teams! A moment that seemed to resonate with the audience is the fact that all other professions work in teams - legal teams, medical teams, space teams. Yet teachers still work alone. Hmmmm?

Dr. Kildare

OR...

An entire medical team from Grey's Anatomy....

Which would you choose?

  1. Worth noting that all of these people are fictional. I'd rather have a real doctor (or a real medical team, I suppose) than a pretend one. Don't send the wrong message about your goals - we're not here to bring in people who play at teaching, but real educators.

  2. These photos are meant to show art imitating life. A TV show like Dr. Kildare demonstrates American society in the 1950's expecting one doctor to solve all of our problems. Grey's Anatomy reflects the expectations of today's society to have a medical team supporting patients. Certainly we need real educators that are trained to work in teams, and many schools and districts are doing this to successfully improve student achievement (see Newark Public Schools in NJ, and Wake County Public Schools in NC). And even the actors work in teams now!
